First UU Houston is working with The Metropolitan Organization (TMO), a collective of faith based and human service organizations in Fort Bend, Harris, and Jefferson Counties. Together we are advocating for policies and actions that foster the worth and dignity of every human being. This is the same group we worked with that lead to the allocation $130 Million to help people faced with eviction due to the Covid 19 shut down. TMO is linked to a statewide Network of similar organizations called the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF) Network. The IAF Network is launching a Statewide effort, called Sign Up Take Charge, to focus on the following issues:

Workforce Development
Access to Health Care
Drivers Licenses for Essential Workers
Covid-19 Recovery
Police Reform

The plan is to launch unified and coordinated advocacy actions to make meaningful change. Below in an opportunity to participate in an Assembly of leaders from all over Texas on June 25th from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm via Zoom intended to launch this movement. The goal of this event is to recruit 1,400 leaders to then recruit 150,000 Texans to focus on advocacy for policy change in targeted State and US Districts where the current elected officials have not supported the IAF agenda. The simple fact is that over the last three sessions the Texas Legislature has passed almost nothing that promoted the wellbeing of Texans who face challenges. First UU can do little alone to change this. Working together with other faith communities and human service organizations, we can make progress. Please plan to put on your yellow T shirts and participate. Our goal is to recruit 40 people affiliated with our UU Faith to participate that are prepared engage 5 more people each willing to focus on these issues.
