Unitarian Universalist Voice for Justice (UUV4J) Position Statement Regarding the Environmental Crisis and Climate Change

It is the intent of UUV4J to inspire, facilitate, and support personal, congregational, and denominational practices that honor and sustain the Earth and all beings. It is our intent to coordinate with the UU Ministry for Earth, the Texas Unitarian Universalist Justice Ministry and other committed Groups and Organizations to focus efforts focused on Environmental Justice.

Our Vision is a world in which reverence, gratitude, and care for each other and for the living Earth are central to the lives of all people.

Our Values
* We are grounded in faith and spirituality.
* We affirm and promote the seven principles of Unitarian Universalism as well as the proposed 8th principle of Unitarian Universalism.
* We understand climate justice to be a moral imperative.
* We are grounded in environmental justice.
* We affirm and promote the framework of race- and class-informed environmental justice and strive to center the leadership and needs of frontline communities.
* We are grounded in partnership and collective action.
* We know that individual consumption choices are not enough; it is only through partnership and collective action that we can save our biosphere.
* We understand that all life is interconnected, that each thread of being is woven into a single fabric of existence, and that creating a sustainable way of life is central to a just and compassionate world.

As a response to this understanding, we know the UUA passed at the 2019 General Assembly an Action of Immediate Witness, which states that the Unitarian Universalist Association, its congregations, and their members are urged to “Build a Movement for a Green New Deal” through continued education as well as actions to address the Climate Crisis.
